Pollies to get grilling

Politicians will square off in Mosgiel this weekend, but not as you may expect.

Dunedin Mayor Dave Cull, National Party MP Michael Woodhouse, Labour Party MP Clare Curran and Mosgiel Taieri Community Board member Sarah Nitis will compete in the Masport Portable Barbecue Cook Off on Saturday.

The event, from 10.30am to 12.30pm, is being organised by the Mosgiel Business Association.

Association chairman Blair Arthur said the public had no reason to fear politicking or electioneering.

''They won't be talking politics,'' he said.

''We won't give them a chance.''

The four competitors would have 45 minutes to prepare a dish using their barbecues.

Following the cook off the barbecues will be auctioned off with the money going to the Otago Rescue Helicopter Trust.

The event will be held in the square between Blackstone Cafe and BNZ in Gordon St.
