College work continues

Twenty more bedrooms and a new common room would be provided, university property services director Barry MacKay said.

''The new layouts utilise part of the former lounge areas, with the intent that leisure and social activity will be directed more to the new common room rather than focused within the units.''

The project would provide opportunities for formal and informal activities and present an attractive and recognisable ''front door'' to the residential facility. A rooftop terrace area would be built above the common room, he said.

The bedrooms were finished earlier this month. The common room was due to be completed by April 14, he said.

Students on the roof

"A rooftop terrace area would be built above the common room" of the University of Otago building project at Toroa College in Regent Rd.  That'll be fun.  Won't it be lovely for other people living in the area when students generously share their music!  Sound should travel really well from that terrace.  Just as well students are becoming so mature and responsible these days.  If they were not they might think it was a great place to throw missiles from, in a spirit of innocent playfulness.
