Two of Taieri College's brightest athletic prospects had the perfect warm-up for this weekend's Otago Secondary Schools Athletics Championship.

Hannah Ashton (13) and Hamish Mears (12) broke five school records between them at the school's athletics day last month.

Hannah broke the records for under-13 high-jump and 100m, while Hamish broke the records for under-13 100m, shotput and discus.

It was a particularly special day for Hannah, being her birthday.

Sports co-ordinator Graeme Egan said it was ''great to see'' the pupils break record after record and it was a good sign ahead of the championship.
