Brick thrown at police car

A brick was thrown at a police car following a large party in North Dunedin on Saturday.

Police were called to Queen St following calls about the party, attended by an estimated 200 people, some of them high school pupils.

Southern district deployment co-ordinator Senior Sergeant Brian Benn said police decided to disperse the party at 10.30pm.

While officers were talking with the flat occupants, ''some brave person decided to throw a brick at the police car''.

The offender was not located, and the vehicle received only minor panel damage.

Snr Sgt Benn said despite a large number of callouts on Saturday night, including to several couch fires, police made only a handful of arrests, with most revellers ''behaving reasonably responsibly''.
