Archbishop addressing poverty

The Archbishop of York, the Most Rev Dr John Sentamu, the second-highest ranked bishop in the Church of England, will take part in a public discussion at All Saints Church, Dunedin, today.

An Archbishop of New Zealand, the Most Rev Philip Richardson, who is the Bishop of Taranaki and a former warden of Selwyn College, will also take part in the conversation, which starts at 4.30pm.

Dr Sentamu and wife Margaret arrived in Dunedin early last week.

The couple will give keynote addresses at a one-day symposium, titled ''Poverty, Global and Local'', at the University of Otago this morning.

Since his arrival in New Zealand, the Archbishop has highlighted the issue of poverty as a priority for society and the Church.

He is based at the university until later this month, as the Harold Turner Visiting Fellow at the centre for theology and public issues. He will also be made a fellow of St Margaret's College, Dunedin.
