Flood info sessions

With plans to spend $8 million on flood and drainage schemes next year, the Otago Regional Council is giving Taieri residents an opportunity to learn more about their flood scheme at meetings this week.

Council engineering, hazards and science director Gavin Palmer said the annual public gatherings gave people a chance to talk to councillors, staff and ask questions about the flood risk on the Taieri.

''While we can't completely eliminate flood risk, it's useful for everyone to be up-to-date with how the schemes work and what protection they offer,'' he said.

• A public meeting will be held at the Mosgiel Coronation Hall from 7pm tonight and drop-in sessions at the Mosgiel Library from 10am-2pm and 3pm-5.30pm tomorrow.
