The opening of Tuapeka Gold Print's new factory in Fairfield is welcome news for the Taieri community, Mosgiel Business Association president Blair Arthur says.

Production started at the company's new factory, at the former Taieri Print site in Chadwick St, on Monday.

Tuapeka managing director Brad Houghton said this week he was confident the company, formerly based in Lawrence, would grow, creating more jobs.

Mr Arthur said having a growing company move into the area was good news.

''All new businesses are always welcome here, and we are pleased to see them set up.

''It's good for the community as well because obviously the employment opportunities and everything else.''

It was also possible some of the staff who commuted to and from Lawrence each day would decide to move to the area.

It would also offset job losses at Taieri Print which occurred after it merged with Wickliffe.
