Teen arrested over assault

A teenager has been arrested in connection with an assault in the Octagon on Sunday.

The 19-year-old Dunedin man is due to appear in the Dunedin District Court today on a charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The 38-year Dunedin man injured in the incident is progressing well in Dunedin Hospital, Inspector Jason Guthrie, Dunedin Clutha Waitaki relieving area commander, said.

The man was struck by a bottle near a police cordon, put in place following the death of a Dunedin man just hours earlier.

The man suffered a head injury in the altercation, which involved five men and a woman.

Insp Guthrie thanked members of the public who provided information and said police would not tolerate this kind of behaviour.
