Career workshops just the job

If you're dreading going back to work after reading this on your morning smoko break, perhaps it's time for a career change.

Whether you are looking for a more challenging career or you're just getting started in the job market, advice will be in abundance at the Mosgiel Library next week.

The Otago Polytechnic is running two workshops in the Downes Room, aimed at steering Taieri residents into careers that make them feel happier and more fulfilled.

Next Tuesday, career guidance will be given at the Otago Careers Festival, and next Wednesday, there will be a curriculum vitae and job search workshop.

Otago Polytechnic Mosgiel digital outreach facilitator Jacquie Hayes said several careers advisers would be on hand on Tuesday between 9am and 3pm to help with career development, career decision making, life choices and employability.

Basically, the careers advisers would be talking to people about where they would like to see themselves in the future, she said.

The guidance was free but bookings were essential, and Mrs Hayes encouraged those who were interested to call Otago Polytechnic on 0800 762 786.

Next Wednesday, between 9am and noon, several Otago Polytechnic staff would be on hand to provide advice on how to prepare a CV and cover letter and find job vacancies.

They would also give great tips on interview skills, Mrs Hayes said.

A similar workshop would also be held on May 21 from 9am to noon in the Downes Room.

Mrs Hayes said both workshops were free, but again, bookings (on 484 7540) were essential.

Both workshops targeted school leavers, job seekers, people already in work wanting to upgrade, people wanting to change career and those returning to the workforce, she said.
