Upper Junction Rd open

Upper Junction Rd, above Sawyers Bay, has been reopened after being closed for nearly a year by a large slip.

The slip occurred about 100m from the intersection of Upper Junction Rd and Blanket Bay Rd, taking about 30m of road and leaving a 20m drop.

Dunedin City Council roading maintenance engineer Peter Standring said it was one of the largest slips the council had dealt with, and had cost more than $400,000 to repair.

The road was open to vehicles again, but some minor finishing touches, such as a guard railing, were still to be completed, he said.
