Man attacked in central Dunedin

Police are looking for a man who allegedly struck a person with a blunt instrument in central Dunedin yesterday.

The victim was in Dowling St about 2.35pm when he was approached by a man who was known to him, Sergeant James Ure said.

The man allegedly demanded property from the victim, who was later struck across the head with a ''blunt instrument''.

The victim was later taken to Dunedin Hospital for treatment to his forehead.

Police would like to speak to Jeremy Ching (35) about the incident.

Sgt Ure said Ching was believed to be a ''potentially unstable person'', and should not be approached.

Anyone with information was urged to contact Dunedin police on 471-4800, or via the anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555-111.
