Injured Alexandra driver progressing in hospital

An Alexandra man involved in a serious motor vehicle accident on Friday was progressing favourably in a general ward at Dunedin Hospital last night.

Grant Sanders (63) was the sole occupant of a Nissan Atlas truck which plunged off Little Valley Rd, above Alexandra's clock on the hill, shortly after noon on Friday and travelled 40m to 50m down a bank before landing in an old water race.

He was airlifted to Dunedin Hospital by the Otago Regional Rescue Helicopter, with serious chest and leg injuries after being trapped for about an hour and a-half.

Mr Sanders is the owner of Alexandra Landscapes, between Alexandra and Clyde, where for many years he has mounted displays to celebrate Christmas and All Black rugby test wins.

He is also a regular participant in the Otago Goldfields Heritage Trust Cavalcade and Alexandra Blossom Festival and is a member of the Alexandra Lions Club.
