Police on hunt for knicker nicker

A burglar with a penchant for panties is targeting student flats, police warn.

Over the last six weeks female underwear and other clothing items have been taken from properties around the London St area, Sergeant Steve Aitken, of Dunedin, said.

Police have fielded at least six complaints, and it was likely not all incidents were reported, he said.

In the latest incident a female resident of a large flat had put clothing in a dryer only to find her underwear missing on her return.

Items had also been taken from clothes-horse left on decks around the area, Sgt Aitken said.

Residents were urged to report any suspicious activity to Dunedin police on 471-4800.

Knicker nicker

Unfortunately, this sort of thing isn't new.  Back in 1970 in Wellington, I had a university friend whose flat members used to take turns watching their washing dry on the line, due to thefts occurring there.
