Charlotte Vaa'Fusuaga (7, top) and Avril Crossman (10) are set to wow audiences in the Taieri Competition Society's annual dance competition this week.

It is the society's 52nd annual dance competition, and will showcase talent from throughout Otago.

The show runs from Friday to Sunday and will feature 62 dancers, aged 4-17, from dance companies throughout the province.

The show will be held in the Mosgiel Coronation Hall.

Taieri Competition Society president Margie Murray said the show was free and anyone was welcome to come and watch.

''There will be a total of 400 dance routines across the weekend from 3pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday,'' Mrs Murray said.

While the main style of dance for the competition was ballet, there would also be classical, hip-hop, jazz, contemporary and lyrical influences, she said.

Experienced Marlborough dancer Jeannie Mark will be the adjudicator.

Each class winner will receive a trophy or rosette.

Championship winners will receive a cup or a small monetary prize.

The championships will take place for jazz on Saturday afternoon, and for ballet on Sunday afternoon.
