Mickey Mouse stood beside a giraffe and a robot at the 2014 IHC Art Awards in the Dunedin Community Gallery last night.

Sculptures, mosaics, textiles, pottery, jewellery and all manner of paintings featured in the annual exhibition.

Dunedin artists Andrew Keogh and Allan Hegan were both highly commended and their works will feature in the national final next month.

There were 221 works of art entered in the awards, which were judged by World fashion director Denise L'Estrange-Corbet.

''They're all amazing, so I had to go with whatever grabbed my attention,'' she said.

''I had a shortlist of 18, which I had to cut down to 10.''

The awards are open to all New Zealanders with an intellectual disability, aged 13 and over.

The top three works will be announced at the national final in Wellington on August 28.

The IHC Art Awards are on at the Dunedin Community Gallery until July 25.
