People looking for Dunedin International Airport are no longer being led astray by Apple.

A spokesman from Apple said yesterday it had fixed an issue that meant users of its maps software were pointed in the direction of the Octagon when searching for ''Dunedin International Airport''.

The fix comes after airport chief executive John McCall told the Otago Daily Times this week it was frustrating Apple had not fixed the problem after the airport raised the issue with it in 2012.

The error was first reported in the ODT in September 2012, after Apple took over from Google as the default provider of maps software on iPads and iPhones.

The launch of the software was plagued by problems around the world, but Apple has since worked to fix issues that included highways that ended in the middle of nowhere and towns in the wrong location.
