Elizabeth Horner (13) auditions for the Taieri Youth Showcase.

The Taieri will be anything but plain this weekend, when some of the region's most talented young entertainers take centre stage for the showcase, featuring a dozen of the best acts from auditions in Coronation Hall last weekend.

''One of the more interesting acts this year was a performer who said he was coming with a mannequin and a cardboard box,'' Youth East Taieri treasurer Robyn Taylor said.

''There is so much talent on the Taieri. It really is amazing.''

The showcase was established to provide a platform for Taieri youth to display their talents and is open to anyone aged 10-18 who lives in Mosgiel, Waihola, Strath Taieri, Fairfield or Taieri Mouth.

''It's going to be a cheap and fun family night of entertainment.''

The concert will be compered by Peter Chin and Gladys Hope. It runs from 7pm on Saturdayat Coronation Hall, in Mosgiel.
