This slump in Morris Rd, at Fairfield, is being assessed by Dunedin City Council staff to see whether there has been any damage to the sewer line underneath.
Council senior roading supervisor Peter Hughes said staff were waiting for results of filming of the sewer pipeline, but were also evaluating the condition of the stormwater culvert that runs under the road at that point, in case there had been any partial collapse of that.
The results of those investigations would determine what sort of work would be needed to fix the problem.
The slump at the shoulder and any movement in the pavement was being monitored in the meantime.
