Abbotsford School pupils tasted the glitz and glam of the movie world last week with their annual musical, A Night at the Abbey.

The Academy Awards-style musical held at Otago Boys' High School allowed pupils to select their favourite children's movies to act out.

Abbotsford School principal Stephanie Madden said she was incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication of her pupils.

''They were fabulous,'' she said.

Some of the movies included Monsters Inc, Madagascar, Ice Age and Kung Fu Panda.

The musical ran on Monday and Tuesday last week to a full house each night.

Mrs Madden said they always tried to get pupils involved in the production process.

''The entire school was involved ... the big children did a lot of the choreography.

"When they've all got a stake in it, they are far more excited.

''Because they work across classes, they get to know other kids and teachers.

"It's been a whole school event.

''It's a wonderful opportunity for children to get involved in the arts.''
