Ex-Otago poet in finals of contest

The son of an Otago soldier who saw service at Gallipoli has won a place in the national finals of the Australian Poetry Slam.

Bill Miller, now of Victorian city Ballarat, Australia, won the Australian 100 years from Gallipoli Poetry Project last year with his poem The Bees of Gallipoli, inspired by his father Otago Trooper Frank Miller's account of Gallipoli.

The poet has now won a spot in the finals of one of Australia's most prestigious prizes for poetry.

The poetry slam finals will take place at the Sydney Opera House on October 12.
