The voices and instruments of more than 300 pupils from 19 schools across Otago joined together for the 2014 Otago Secondary Schools' Music Festival at the Dunedin Town Hall last night.

Among the schools' massed orchestras, jazz bands and choirs was the award-winning joint choir, Barock, comprising pupils from Otago Boys' and Otago Girls' High Schools.

Last month, the 52-strong group won a Bronze Award at the

New Zealand Choral Federation's Big Sing Competition. They were also named joint winners of the Auahi Kore Performance Award for the best work using Maori text - the first time the award has come to Dunedin.

The trophy was displayed on stage as the group brought the house down with a repeat performance of Marangara near the end of last night's show.
