Three Dunedin school pupils from the band Jars of Souls have released a song to help support children in Gaza.

Band members Abe Baillie (12), Nick Unahi (13) and Autumn Thom (12) recorded the song Save the Children in the Albany Street Studios at the department of music at University of Otago on September 18.

Abe said the three year 8 Balmacewen Intermediate pupils started the project after hearing of the war in Gaza.

''There's 100,000 children who have lost their homes and need support.''

The song costs $2.50 to download at www.jarsofsouls. bandcamp.com and all proceeds go to charity Save the Children.

The recording process was ''exciting'' and the song sounded ''amazing'', Abe said.

About $130 had been raised so far.

The band thanked drum teacher Maddy Parkins-Craig, studio staff Graeme Downes and Stephen Stedman, session musicians including guitarist James Butler and bassist Andy Parsons, and the Department of Music for their help.

To create the song, Abe wrote and played the piano, Nick sang the verses and Autumn wrote the lyrics and rapped the choruses including the lines ''so help us save the children and give them a vision, yeah help us save the children from bombs that are killing''.
