Rods, reels taken

Police believe a series of boat burglaries may be related.

Another burglary of a boat at the Careys Bay wharf, in which fishing rods and reels were taken from a charter boat, had been reported to police, Senior Sergeant Mark Crawford said.

It occurred sometime between last week and Tuesday, which fitted the timeframe of a previously reported burglary of a boat moored at the wharf.

On that occasion, in the middle of last week, rope and fishing knives were stolen from a boat and the intruders tried, unsuccessfully, to enter the locked cabin.

Ten boats near the Broad Bay Boating Club, in Portobello Rd, were also unlawfully entered last week.

''It's [boats are] an unusual target and for it to happen about the same time, [means] we will be looking at the possibility that it's linked,'' Snr Sgt Crawford said.

He would not comment on whether police had any leads or suspects, but ''inquiries are ongoing in relation to it''.
