Hunt begins for new directors

A recruitment drive has begun to identify potential new directors to help guide some of Dunedin City Council's companies.

Dunedin City Holdings Ltd chairman Graham Crombie yesterday said the hunt was on for candidates wanting to join the boards of DCHL and Dunedin Venues Management Ltd, which runs Forsyth Barr Stadium.

The call for candidates was ''standard process'' at this time of year, ahead of any decisions about replacing directors as they planned to retire or their positions came up for renewal, he said.

It was not yet known if any directors would be replaced, but recommendations on the need for change would be considered at a DCHL board meeting next week.

''We've obviously got lists of people who have indicated [their interest] before, but we're just trying to make sure that anyone who has an interest in getting involved gets their hand up, so we've got a pool to work from.''

Hanging over the process was also the soon-to-be-released stadium review, due next month, which was considering governance arrangements among other potential changes.

Mr Crombie said no decisions had been made, and he did not know what the review could mean for the future shape of DVML's board, but ''all of that's on the table''.

Any changes to DCHL's board would also require the approval of the council, as its shareholder, while changes to DVML and Dunedin Venues Ltd would be considered and agreed directly by councillors.
