A new vegetable store is breathing life into the void left by the closed Veggie Boys shop at Wal's Plant Land.

The store was left vacant for about two and a-half months, but now the area is a hive of activity.

Owner Clive Wallis and manager Mike Roberts are excited to be under way with the new project.

''There was always going to be a vege shop here. It didn't work out for [Veggie Boys] so we went back to Plan A,'' Mr Wallis said.

''We want to focus on keeping it local and fresh.''

The store has been open for two weeks.

Mr Roberts felt right at home managing the new store.

''I've been doing fruit and produce for 28 years. This is something that I've always had a passion for,'' he said.

It took about a week to get everything ready for opening day on October 23.

''I've got the base down, now I've just got to keep adding and adding to it.''

A new tunnel had been constructed to to connect Wal's Vege Land and More to the greater complex.

The idea of the complex was to create a store where people could get everything they need.

''They can make a full meal just from here and there's going to be more,'' Mr Wallis said.

''This is an opportunity to get the public quality produce.''

As Mr Roberts said, ''It's not just about us; it's about what our customers want.''
