Firefighters attend to an overturned Toyota Land Cruiser on farmland beside Akatore Rd, near Taieri Mouth, yesterday.

Five Chinese tourists in the vehicle sustained minor injuries in the crash, which occurred about 4.20pm, Southern District Command Centre deployment co-ordinator Senior Sergeant Dave Scott said.

The group comprised three adults in their 30s and two children aged 4 and 4 months.

''They were on a gravel road and unused to driving in New Zealand conditions and the vehicle has overturned and rolled down a bank.''

The tourists sustained ''bumps and bruises'' and were treated at the scene, he said.

Both children were restrained in car seats, Snr Sgt Scott said.
