Board wants yap about dog control

Mosgiel Taieri Community Board members want a personal presentation from Dunedin City Council staff before the board responds to a survey on the dog control bylaw and policy.

Board member Martin Dillon said the draft policy was an important document and boards needed to be consulted in person.

''There are a lot of questions I would like to ask.

''As a community board I would have thought we would have had the opportunity to discuss that with a person concerned.''

Mr Dillon's comments came after the council asked members to comment on the policy by December 5.

A motion for the date to be delayed until the board was ''engaged'' by the council was moved by Mr Dillon and seconded by Blackie Catlow.

Animal control team leader Ros MacGill said she had not yet received the board request so could not comment further.

However, she said: ''I can't see that it would be a problem.''
