The Dunedin City Council is to adopt a new process to deal with requests to not pay some or all of required development contributions.
The council's new development contribution policy, which came into force on July 1, required the full council to make decisions on all requests.
The council has now agreed to devolve the decision making, depending on the scale of the request being made, to create a more practical process.
The council decided this week it would continue to decide any requests for remission (a request not to pay part or all of a contribution), or for the development to be considered an unusual development, where the development would cost more than $50,000.
Requests for remission or unusual development status related to development contributions of between $5000 and $50,000 would be decided by a development contributions subcommittee and requests related to development contributions under $5000, including requests for deferral of payment, would be decided by delegated staff.
Council resource consent manager Alan Worthington said only one request for remission had been made so far and was as yet undecided.
