Arrest after driving incident

A police officer and a member of the public were assaulted after trying to stop a woman from driving dangerously on Taieri Rd yesterday, Sergeant Reece Munro, of Dunedin, said.

The member of public called police at 3.40pm, concerned about the dangerous manner in which a car in front of them was being driven.

When the driver stopped at the lights at the Helensburgh Rd intersection, the member of the public intervened and took the car keys from the driver, he said.

A physical altercation ensued and when police arrived soon after, the driver also allegedly assaulted an officer who required treatment for exposure to bodily fluids.

The 41-year-old unemployed Mosgiel woman was charged with resisting and assaulting police and a further charge of driving while impaired could be laid, depending on the analysis of a blood sample, Sgt Munro said.

Anyone who witnessed the incident should call the Dunedin Police District Command Centre, he said.
