Police seek Pine Hill assault witnesses

Police are calling for witnesses to an assault which resulted in a 20-year-old man being knocked unconscious and having his jaw broken.

Detective Sergeant Brett Roberts, of Dunedin CIB, said the assault took place in Allenby Ave, in Pine Hill, between 5am and 5.30am on Saturday.

The man was attacked by a group who climbed out of a grey people-mover at the intersection of Allenby Ave and Blundell St, he said.

The 20-year-old man, who was beaten unconscious, was taken to Dunedin Hospital following the assault, Det Sgt Roberts said.

Police had arrested one male, but believed more were involved.

''Residents in the area may have heard something or witnessed this altercation,'' he said.
