Five teens rescued after vehicle trapped in bog

Five Dunedin teens were rescued after their vehicle became stuck in a bog in a remote part of Otago.

A search and rescue mission was launched on Tuesday night following a call to police that the teens' vehicle was stuck in a bog off the Old Dunstan Trail, near Great Moss Swamp.

By that stage, the teens - two 16-year-olds, two 17-year-olds and an 18-year-old - had been stuck for more than three hours, Senior Sergeant Craig Brown, of Dunedin, said.

''They had gone down the track and then went on to grass before hitting the bog,'' Snr Sgt Brown said.

Dunedin police search and rescue staff, including a LandSAR vehicle, were sent to the location, rescuing the teens and their vehicle about 1.30am on Wednesday.
