A film and video game screenwriter has been selected to make a literary tour of Dunedin for the Digital Writers' Festival in Melbourne.

Dunedin City of Literature bid co-ordinator Liz Knowles said Dunedin screenwriter Henry Feltham had been selected by festival organisers to help publicise Dunedin's literary culture.

Ms Knowles said she was excited somebody of Mr Feltham's calibre would be producing the tour.

''Henry is a talented writer and passionate storyteller and will relish this challenge. I'm really looking forward to seeing his take on Dunedin's literary heart.''

Mr Feltham would be one of several writers producing tours from Unesco Cities of Literature, Ms Knowles said.

''It is a fantastic opportunity to show Dunedin to a new generation of writers from around the world. This really is a great start to Dunedin's new life as a Unesco City of Literature.''

Mr Feltham was the principal writer for the Casebook series of games between 2007 and 2009 and won a United Nations World Summit award for digital content in 2010.

''Dunedin is New Zealand's artistic heart, but it's not always easy to see. A lot of it is hidden away. So it's a fantastic chance to give the world an introduction to my city's extraordinary culture,'' Mr Feltham said.

The Melbourne festival will be held online between February 11 and 22.
