A $1.2 million redevelopment project under way at the Mosgiel Memorial RSA has already resulted in a ''total transformation''.

And Mosgiel RSA vice-president Tony Mobbs says the wider Mosgiel community will also benefit from the greatly improved and modernised facilities.

More than half the redevelopment work at the Church St premises has been done and the project is due to be completed in about two months.

A redeveloped library and memorabilia housing area-already largely completed- would better protect the RSA's many books and its extensive memorabilia collection.

''It will be a great place for [school] kids to come and do research,'' he said.

Mr Mobbs (56) said Cook Brothers Construction had ''done a marvellous job'' on the project, which was enabling the club to meet the needs ''for the future''.

And the redevelopment was also strengthening the Mosgiel RSA's role as a ''community club''.

Previous limitations in the building had meant it had been ''quite challenging'' to protect and display RSA memorabilia, which was also an important part of the wider history of the Taieri, he said.

Cook Brothers build team manager Craig Burr said good progress was being made and in areas where work had already begun, it was 90% completed.

The work included earthquake strengthening, as well as modernising electrical wiring and plumbing, Mr Burr said.

Organisers said a modern gaming area had been developed, the kitchen revamped and toilet facilities were being upgraded.
