Cruise ship passenger flown to Dunedin

An American cruise ship passenger was flown from Milford Sound to Dunedin Hospital this morning after falling ill late yesterday.

The 75-year-old was evacuated on the advice of doctors on board the cruise ship Marina.

The Rescue Co-ordination Centre of New Zealand was advised of the man's condition yesterday but at that time the ship was too far off shore to be winched off by helicopter before nightfall.

The Marina was scheduled to visit Milford Sound and the man was taken to shore by boat this morning and transferred to hospital by the Otago rescue helicopter.

His condition is not known.
