Firefighters attended an electrical fire in the roof space of a laundry at a Ravensbourne home yesterday afternoon.

Fire crews from Ravensbourne and Dunedin were called to the Totara St property shortly after 4pm.

It is believed the fire started by a light fitting, which had been left on overnight.

Ravensbourne Chief Fire Officer Ross Bryant said after isolating the power, firefighters had to remove roofing iron to extinguish the seat of the fire.

The smoke was first noticed by a neighbour, who notified the occupant of the property.

"If it had not been noticed at such an early stage, the outcome could have been a lot worse," Mr Bryant said.

The laundry was housed in a building near the house.
