One-time naturopath and medical herbalist Kirsten Taylor says she did not sleep for three months.

It was 2009, and she had recently suffered a major professional blow.

''I was actually ripped off by my business partner,'' the Auckland sleep and stress specialist said.

''It was right as the world was going into the global financial crisis, and ... around that time, I didn't sleep for three months.''

Then, one night, it occurred to her to take one of the sleep remedies that she had been recommending to her clients.

''I went, 'Hang on a minute, I've got a sleep remedy','' she said.

''So I got up and made one, and slept nine hours straight for the first time in three months.''

Now, Ms Taylor has founded her own business, SleepDrops, which focuses entirely on dealing with stress and sleep problems through naturopathy.

She was in the South yesterday to speak about sleep to entrepreneurs at the Dunedin Centre in Harrop St.
