Model A cars wend their way along the eastern side of Lake Hawea yesterday, heading for the Dingleburn.

Before leaving Wanaka on yesterday's 50km rally, drivers were warned the road was not one for the faint-hearted and that their cars, from the 1920s and 1930s, needed to be well-serviced with ''excellent'' brakes.

One-hundred-and-one cars made the journey.

Rally co-ordinator Richard Muir said there was not a single breakdown on the trip, made in perfect autumn weather.

The Model A enthusiasts were greeted at Dingleburn Station by owners Davida and Guy Mead and then proceeded to picnic.

The week-long Model A meet has attracted 155 cars to Wanaka. It continues today with a drive to the Southern Hemisphere Proving Ground on the Pisa Range, near Cardrona.
