Multiple charges include robbery

A 26-year-old Dunedin man has been remanded in custody facing a raft of charges after an alleged spree of offending over Easter weekend, including the robbery of the Fairfield Store and Takeaways, in Dunedin, and failing to stop for police.

The man was remanded in custody when he appeared in the Dunedin District Court yesterday, Acting Senior Sergeant Ian Temple said.

His next appearance will be on April 21.

He is charged with assaulting with intent to rob, operating a motor vehicle recklessly, failing to stop for police and arson, all on Good Friday.

He also faces two charges of assaulting police, two charges of threatening to kill and one charge of resisting police, on Saturday.

Acting Snr Sgt Temple, of the Dunedin District Command Centre, said more charges would be laid against the man.

On Saturday, the Otago Daily Times reported police believed a failed ram raid of Moyles SuperValue in Green Island could be linked to the Fairfield Store and Takeaways incident and the police chase.
