A tour of the secure labyrinth underneath the Otago Museum, allowing the fashion-conscious access to some special objects in the facility's basement, has been quickly, and fully, booked out.

The Best Dressed Basement Tour gives a behind-the-scenes look at the museum textiles collection to view garments and accessories, and find out what is needed to store the pieces safely and securely.

The tours were being held in conjunction with iD Dunedin Fashion Week, museum marketing co-ordinator Kate Barron said.

They were on yesterday, and continue today and 13 women took advantage in the afternoon, crowding around some historic items.

Those included Queen Victoria's nightdress, although the collection includes more modern fashion, such as a NOM*d blazer, Ms Barron said.
