City pair on NZ museum board

Otago Museum director Dr Ian Griffin has been elected to the board of the national museums professional body, Museums Aotearoa, for a two-year term.

Dr Griffin was elected at the organisation's annual meeting, which took place during the Museums Aotearoa conference, held in Dunedin last week.

Dunedin Public Art Gallery director Cam McCracken is also a member of the board.

Dr Griffin said he was looking forward to being part of the new board, under the organisation's chairman, Roy Clare, who is director of the Auckland War Memorial Museum.

Dr Griffin said he would work to help the ''entire museums sector'', and was also looking forward to ensuring - given also Mr McCracken's role on the board - that ''the interests of the South Island are looked after'', he said.
