'Magnificent show of support' for book sale

The cash register at the Star Regent 24 hour Book Sale rang to the tune of nearly $70,000.

Sale convener Alison Cunningham said the event at Regent Theatre was ''really good'' this year and was well attended.

''Again [it was] a magnificent show of support from the lovely people of Dunedin.''

The sale raised $69,881, raising the total to more than $80,000 when added to the takings from the Anything But Books Sale in March.

Every book given for sale was displayed.

''All of our books went up on the tables, which is quite unusual; we usually have some boxes we don't have the time to put up.'' The unsold books would be given to a Rotary Club and Otago Regional Rescue Helicopter Trust for its book sales and to Vanuatu to replace books destroyed in the cyclone.

''No book gets thrown away.''
