Fresh damage at the site of a major slip repair project in Upper Junction Rd, near Port Chalmers, is just ''superficial'', the Dunedin City Council says.
Photos emerged yesterday showing damage to the face of the reinforced engineered slope, built last year at a cost of about $500,000 following a major slip in mid-2013.
Council roading maintenance engineer Peter Standring said a ''facing'' of matting and grass appeared to have slipped in Wednesday night's deluge, but the integrity of the structure behind it remained sound.
''What you see there doesn't challenge the integrity of the wall itself or what it's there to do. It's basically just the paint job on top.
''I'm very confident that it's just superficial and the integrity of it hasn't been challenged at all,'' he said.
The structure would be inspected by a geotechnical engineer later today, and plans for a repair were yet to be confirmed, he said.
However, any fix was expected to be inexpensive, possibly only involving resowing the face with grass seed ''and just leave it at that'', he said.
