Former Mosgiel residents will be travelling from around the world to be part of a special reunion in October.

Applications from as far away as the United Kingdom and Australia have been received for the event, ''I Call Mosgiel My Home Reunion''.

The idea was thought up by Mandy Walter, who grew up in Mosgiel and lived there for 40 years.

Since she moved to Fairfield, she had seen on Facebook many friends trying to find a reason to return to Mosgiel.

So far, about 200 requests to attend had been received and more were expected.

''I'm really hoping it will get to 300,'' Ms Walter said.

A committee, made up of former Taieri High School pupils now living all around New Zealand, had been set up.

Any present or former Mosgiel residents over the age of 40 can attend the three-day celebrations, which will start on Friday, October 16.

The group was looking forward to bringing together old community members, Ms Walter said.

A get-together was planned on the Friday night which will allow time for guests to meet others, reunite with old friends and take photographs together.

There will be a dinner and a dance, with live music by Sidewalk Sally, the next night, followed by a farewell barbecue lunch on the Sunday.
