Waldronville murder-accused in court

A man charged with murder following the death of Waldronville woman on Friday evening has been remanded in custody to reappear in the High Court at Dunedin later this month.

Represented by counsel John Westgate, the 22-year-old appeared before Judge Kevin Phillips in the Dunedin District Court this morning.

He faces two charges: murdering Vicki Lee Warrington and wounding a male with intent to cause grievous bodily harm on July 3.

The man, whose left arm was bandaged, showed no emotion as he stood in the dock for the brief court appearance.

Judge Phillips granted Mr Westgate's application for interim suppression of the defendant's name.

He also granted an application from prosecutor Sergeant Kate Saxton for interim suppression for the male complainant

At the request of counsel, the defendant was remanded in custody by consent to July 21.

No plea was being entered at this stage, Mr Westgate said.
