Hope for playcentre

A ''small influx'' of families to Outram Playcentre is probably just enough to stave off the possibility of closure, treasurer Rachel McNeill says.

But it cannot be said for sure until the new term starts next week.

Last month Ms McNeill warned the playcentre was ''seriously close to being closed'', because the number of families involved with it had dropped to six.

The group carried out a flyer drop in the local area, and the issue featured in the Taieri Times.

''We have had a small influx, which will probably just keep us going,'' Ms McNeill said.

At least four new families had expressed an interest in joining.

''Some people didn't know about us."

There were new people associated with dairying now in the community.

The Tuesday play group had to be dropped late last year. At the end of the coming term, the play group schedule would be reassessed.
