Cook on board

Dunedin man Ken Cook has been elected to the board of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of New Zealand.

Mr Cook, a survivor of the disease, has been co-ordinator of the foundation in the Otago area for four years.

He is the first board member to be elected from the South.

Mr Cook said he looked forward to helping to steer the organisation at a financial level.

Most of the board meetings were in Auckland, so the position would involve travel.

The Dunedin branch of the foundation had the highest number of attendees of any branch in New Zealand, Mr Cook said.

''Our main aim of the whole foundation is to reach out to new people. There's the same number of deaths from prostate cancer as there is from breast cancer.''
