Clues have emerged to help Middlemarch Museum solve a mystery.
Museum treasurer Dr Anne Elliot said there was a ''brilliant'' response after a Taieri Times article requested information on a mystery wooden tool (pictured right) on display at the museum.
Several leads had been received, Dr Elliott said.
''All but one were adamant the object is a carriage jack. The odd one out said it without a doubt was a croquet hoop lifter. Several people have sent me emails with photos and links and I have people yet to talk to.''
The history of a book on display in the museum - Official History of the Otago Regiment NZEF in the Great War 1914-1918 - remained a mystery, she said.
