Arrests after Milton call-out

Two men have been arrested after a major police call-out to a shearers quarters in Milton overnight.

Police received several calls around 1am that a homicide and stabbings had taken place at the Arthur St property, Senior Sergeant Darryl Lennane said in a statement.

Officers from Balclutha, Milton and Mosgiel responded along with a dog team from Dunedin. An ambulance was also put on standby.

Armed police entered the property to find no one was seriously injured and the offenders had left.

Police confirmed that some occupants of the quarters had been assaulted and threatened with knives and a baseball bat.

Windows had been smashed there and a vehicle damaged.

Police arrested a 31-year-old man at another Milton address soon after.

This afternoon a 29-year-old from Milton was also arrested in relation to the incident.

Both are facing charges of threatening to kill, and assault. Police said it was possible further charges could be laid.

The men will be held in custody tonight and will appear in the Dunedin District Court tomorrow.

Police said at this stage they were not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.
