Smash and grab targeted Mosgiel retailer

Police are investigating whether a smash and grab raid in Mosgiel is linked to earlier break-ins in Brockville and Kaikorai Valley.

Burglars smashed the front window of The Warehouse Mosgiel, in Gordon Rd, just before midnight on Tuesday and stole several television sets, Senior Sergeant Liz Waru said.

Two men were spotted on the store's CCTV inside the building but others could have assisted, she said.

A white van was seen in the area and police believe it might be linked to the raid.

''We would be interested in what anyone saw, anything suspicious, around that time,'' Snr Sgt Waru said.

The raid comes a fortnight after three men in a white van stole television sets from houses in Brockville.

On that occasion, three men were seen loading a television set into a car, she said.

Two vehicles - a grey Mitsubishi Galant and a white Toyota van - were used by the trio. Two of the men were of average build and height and the third was described as tall and lanky.

That trio was linked to other burglaries in Brockville and Kaikorai Valley.

Police were investigating if the same group was linked to The Warehouse raid.

It was too early to speculate if the white van was linked or if it was the same one that was spotted during the Brockville burglaries, she said.

Police are again urging Dunedin residents to lock their vehicles after several unlocked cars were entered on Tuesday night.

Two unlocked cars in Carr St, Northeast Valley, were entered but nothing was taken. No valuables were left in them, Senior Sergeant Liz Waru said.

A car in Middleton Rd, Corstorphine, was also entered. Only breath mints were taken.

Anyone with information about these incidents is urged to contact Dunedin police on 471-4800. Information can also be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555-111.
