Otago Polytechnic fashion student Kayla Araya (right), of southern Thailand, hopes opportunities for more Thai students to come to Dunedin will open up.

''The education system in Thailand and New Zealand are quite different, and I prefer the New Zealand system,'' she said during a visit this week by Thai Ambassador Maris Sangiampongsa (second from right).

Ms Araya, along with fellow polytech student Jay Watphisit (left) met Mr Sangiampongsa and polytech chief executive Phil Ker.

The ambassador's visited was heralded as a ''sign of future collaboration'' by the polytechnic.

''Dunedin already has strong educational links with Thailand, with a number of high schools hosting Thai students.

''Otago Polytechnic aspires to increase its share of this international market,'' the polytech said.
